Latisse® for Longer Eyelashes
Have you always been envious of other women who have beautiful long eyelashes? Maybe they are using Latisse™ Eyelash Treatment. Now you can have them too. They are available at Goodman Dermatology in Roswell, by prescription only.
Latisse was developed as a result of a treatment for glaucoma. Patients who used the eye-drops as a medical product to lower inner eye pressure started noticing enhanced eyelid growth. The pharmaceutical company Allergan, then developed this into a treatment to be applied to the base of the eyelashes. Allergan is also the manufacturer of Botox, the very popular and well known injectable for reducing wrinkles around the eyes and forehead.
In clinical trials, conducted by Allergan, they found that 78% of their study patients had a noticeable increase in eyelash growth. Latisse is thought to work by extending the duration of the growth phase of the eyelashes as well as increasing the number of hairs in the growth phase at one time.
How to Apply Latisse®
It is recommended that Latisse be applied daily at nighttime. Apply a single dosage (one drop) to the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes only. Make sure you have cleaned your face and removed any eye makeup before applying. If you wear contacts you will need to remove them. You can reinsert them 15 minutes following its administration. Dispose of the applicator after one use and use a new applicator for the other eye. This helps minimize and potential for contamination from one eyelid to another.
Do not apply in your eye or to the lower lid. Only use the sterile applicators supplied with Latisse to apply the product. If you miss a dose, don’t try and “catch up”. Just resume applications the following evening.
What Kind Of Results Should I Expect?
Fifty percent of patients treated with Latisse in a clinical study saw significant improvement by 2 months after starting treatment. Eyelashes will grow longer and become thicker with continued use.
If you stop Latisse treatment, your eyelashes are expected to return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months.
