Superficial Radiotherapy (SRT)

With superficial radiotherapy, patients can enjoy a comfortable skin cancer treatment that leaves no scarring. The Skin Cancer Center at Goodman Dermatology offers this advanced solution to patients is offered in our Roswell.

What is Superficial Radiotherapy?

Superficial radiotherapy, or SRT, is a skin cancer technique that uses x-ray technology to destroy cancerous cells. Goodman Dermatology is one of only three practices in Atlanta with the SRT machine. Unlike many skin cancer treatments, which involve the surgical removal of cancerous cells, superficial radiotherapy is a non-invasive technique for skin cancer treatment. During the painless SRT treatment, x-ray energy is delivered to the affected area of the skin. The cancerous cells will absorb this energy, and will be destroyed as a result. Because of the simple and comfortable treatment process, this is a preferred skin cancer treatment. However, whether it can be used for a particular patient will depend on the size and location of the affected area. Furthermore, it can only be used for the following treatments:

How Much Does Superficial Radiotherapy Cost?

The cost of your superficial radiotherapy treatment will vary depending on the extent of treatment necessary, and may be covered by insurance. At Goodman Dermatology, we understand that each patient is entirely unique. With different skin types and treatment needs, each patient deserves a personalized treatment that is designed with them in mind. For these reasons, we are not able to provide an exact cost for treatment until we have the opportunity to assess your condition and develop a personalized treatment plan.

During your consultation, we will discuss your needs in order to determine this treatment plan and inform you of the cost of your superficial radiotherapy treatment. To make our treatments more affordable for our patients, we are proud to offer financing options through CareCredit®.

What is the Superficial Radiotherapy Treatment Like?

During the superficial radiotherapy treatment, there is no anesthesia necessary and you will be able to lie comfortably for the duration of the treatment. Once you are comfortably positioned, the SRT application device will be placed on the treatment area. You will not feel any discomfort as the treatment begins; SRT is completely painless. The superficial radiotherapy treatment session will take about half an hour to complete.
