Xeomin®

Xeomin® is a Botox® alternative without any added ingredients, making it the optimal choice for some patients. You can visit Goodman Dermatology at our locations in Roswell, Marietta / East Cobb, Woodstock and Dawsonville, GA, to receive this and other injectable treatments.

Xeomin®

Xeomin®, the trade name for Incobotulinum A or IBTX-A, is manufactured by Merz Pharmaceuticals. The FDA approved this prescription medicine in 2011 for use by patients in the United States after clinical trials (reported in the “Journal of Neurological Sciences.” Dermatologists use this treatment similarly to Botox® and Dysport®, most commonly to treat frown lines, forehead lines and wrinkles, and crow’s feet (laugh or smile lines). The United States was the twentieth country to approve this treatment. Goodman Dermatology provides a full spectrum of medical, surgical, and cosmetic treatment options to patients in search of beautiful, healthy skin.

What Are the Differences Between Xeomin®, Botox® and Dysport®?

Unlike Dysport® and Botox®, Xeomin® requires no refrigeration. Unlike these treatments, the IBTX-A formula contains no added proteins or additives that may trigger a response from the patient’s immune system. The presence of these antibodies may prevent Botox® or Dysport® from offering ideal results over time. Similar to other treatments, results from the procedure occur within days to about a week. Results last up to six months, so it’s comparable to other injectable therapies. Some research suggests Xeomin® treatments last a little longer than others.

How Long Does Xeomin® Treatment Take?

A licensed medical professional offers this in-office procedure. Most patients report the procedure takes just a few minutes from start to finish. The patient applies ice to the treatment area before, and immediately after, treatment. If he or she wears cosmetics, it’s best to wash the face before receiving injections. After the procedure is performed, it’s important to avoid strenuous exercise.

Do Xeomin® Treatments Have Side Effects?

Similar to other injectable line softening and smoothing treatments, patients report swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site. On rare occasions, some patients have reported skin itch or headache. It’s important to discuss any potential risks or concerns about the treatment during a consult with Goodman Dermatology. After the procedure is performed, it’s important to avoid strenuous exercise. Don’t lay down after a treatment, or massage the treatment area site or sites. Most patients bring along some cosmetic concealer to dab over the treatment area.
